STATE NEWS INSURANCE FRAUD AWARENESS A recent indictment by the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Washington charged 23 defendants from four different states and one Canadian province for participating in an auto insurance fraud scheme. Not all instances of auto insurance fraud are as expansive as that. No matter the size, every instance of fraud causes harm to individuals and our industry. The 138-page indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to commit mail and wire fraud and health care fraud by staging approximately 14 automobile accid

ents leading to the submission of almost $1 million in false insurance claims for lost wages, bodily injury and property damage.
